Philippe Charles and I are the co-authors of the original version of Jikes, released in December, 1998, as IBM's first open-source project under an open-source license drafted by IBM. I ran the project during 1999, until Philippe and I had to move on to other work. I am currently the project administrator, though Jikes has been dormant for well over a year.
