Hello,

I would like to browse a map of the people registered on ohloh, but the small map in my profile is 1. small and 2. has little functionalities (searching or changing map view).

Is there a way to more comfortably browse the geo-directory of the ohloh people?

All I can say for sure, is that I do not need the information, that firefox is popular any more.

I guess "absolute favorite" is not what should be shown by default, instead the "top gainer" would be more interesting. You just have to insert the right limits/conditions, so the list we're talking about (some way of list which somehow represents some perspective on the popularity of projects) will change at least twice a week.

Otherwise one might get the impression that the main page is static (at least that particular list) =)

You probably know of the special page "uncategorized pages" in mediawiki. ohloh needs the same, just for tags.

You can list "top gainers" - though projects with 100+ 'diggs' should be excluded! You can list new projects (newly listed)

Flickr's interesting page is probably a list of favorites of some moderators.

I guess another thing is checking out user's favorite lists and finding software this way.

But there's probably no way of easily finding underdogs, as long as they're underdogs (I'm talking about underrated software)

Topic: Natural languages besides English?

Controlling tags can result in crap, because you can't be sure that two words are the same..

I think it's safe to allow the chaos, the tag-recommendation tool is very usefull and people shouldn't start new tags if they don't think that they are necessary.

Tags for different languages sounds like a heap of work..

What ohloh definitely needs are GUI translations, this is really important, since not all speak english. once the project is inside ohloh, chances are high that english speaking ones will find it and tag it accordingly.

take a look at Jamendo for inspiration maybe..

Any chances that you will start a translation project real soon? I can work on a german one!

I heard bad things about launchpad.net on inkscape's irc I think btw, I think it was license-related (they require you to use cc-by 2.5? - likely to be wrong info)

some projects write the used language in their tag list, the code-scanner could do that too, would be confusing regarding documentation formats (html) though.

this could partly be solved by the system automatically writing tags for projects after analyzing the code base. Bad idea?

In 3.5.5 on the debian machines in my university the login/register/welcome,qubodup line can't be seen. If it's ok with newer versions it should be good.
