Many projects are internationalized with GNU GetText (.po files), but unfortunately do not give commit bits to translators. So the translators do not currently get proper attribution in Ohloh.
But this is fixable!
Each .po file contains a header that is updated automatically by editing tools such as POEdit:
msgid ""
msgstr ""
"Project-Id-Version: padre\n"
"Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: \n"
"POT-Creation-Date: 2011-08-20 04:10-0700\n"
"PO-Revision-Date: 2011-08-20 13:46+0100\n"
"Last-Translator: Olivier Mengué <email@domain>\n"
...
The "Last-Translator" header could be used to credit the right person, instead of crediting the committer of the update (keep in mind that a single commit could affect multiple .po). The "PO-Revision-Date" could be used to verify (by comparing to the value in the previous commit) that this attribution algorithm must be applied.
