These instructions will guide you through uploading your first file to the Ohloh downloads service using the web interface.
In order to manage a project's packages, releases and files, you must be registered as a project manager on Ohloh. Look for the "Who manages" section on a project and click on "I'm a manager" link and follow the steps. First applicants are automatically approved, while subsequent applicants must be approved by existing managers.
Click on the "Packages and Releases" link on the left hand side of your project page. If you're logged in as a manager, you should see a "Packages and Releases" link, that looks like this:
The first step to uploading a file is to create a package. Click on the "New Package" link.
If you're confused about what to name your package, simply use your project's name. The description should include what basic functionality your users should expect when downloading your software. Click "Submit".
The next step is to create a release. Click on the "New Release" link.
Name your package appropriately. If you're at a loss for what to name it, use "0.1" for now (you can always change it later). Use the date that this release was first available (which may or may not be today).
Fill in the description. It should contain specifics of what is new in this release vs previous releases.
Almost done. The last step is to upload an actual file. Click on the "New File" link.
The most important part of the form is to choose the file you want to upload. A few words of caution: once uploaded, this file will be publicly accessible - choose carefully! Ohloh will use the name of your file as its public name - so make sure it's named appropriately.
Ohloh limits web uploads to 10MB. You can use the console upload service for bigger files.
Choose what package and release you'd like this file to belong to (although you should only see once choice for each at this point). Fill in what platform requirements your file needs and, lastly, choose an appropriate platform icon.
While your project page on Ohloh will now link to your new downloads, you'll typically want to also link to your downloads from from some external site (your official home page, perhaps?). You can simply navigate your project's download pages and copy/paste the URL you want. For broader options, refer to the download FAQ.
