Think what you will of Blizzard and World of Warcraft one thing is evident; the decision to open up the client's internals in a controlled manner via Lua is a huge departure from the industry standard and a huge boon for the end user. This is a step beyond what Blizzard's competitors have done with their XML layouts as the inclusion of Lua allows the behavior of the client, not just the look and feel, to be modified.

ACE is a vibrant set of library routines for WoW Scripts (called Addons) to use. These libraries provide a common set for Addon developers to share so the impact of Addons on the client is minimized. It represents good code reuse. ACE addons have gained more and more popularity in the WoW community with many independent Addons reworked as ACE Addons or had ACE Addons written to replace them.
