Minor patch release, files are available from the usual downloads location on SourceForge

https://sourceforge.net/projects/aqsis/files/

Firstly, apologies for missing the release notice for 1.8.1, which fixed the binary ... [More] issues in the previous announcement. Things have been a bit hectic around here for a while, hopefully will be able to get back to more stability and reliability soon.

The main change for this release is to fix an error with libri2rib reported on the bug list. It will only really affect anyone using that library in a third party project. The symbol RiDeformationV was declared in the ri.h header, but not defined. Even though we don't support it, there needs to be a dummy implementation to resolve link time expectations.

Unfortunately, due to unexpected last minute changes to support the switch to Qt from FLTK, both the Windows and MacOSX binary releases of Aqsis 1.8.0 are broken.

We will be working as fast as possible to address this and release an ... [More] updated 1.8.1 as soon as feasible.

I will post notification here when it is available.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

For unavoidable reasons, we've decided to delay the release of 1.8 for up to 1 month.

The development of key functionality has had to be put on hold for a short while, and it was decided that, rather than release an incomplete ... [More] implementation on time, it would be better to delay the release for a short while and release with all intended functionality.

One of the important considerations in this decision was the apparent lack of urgent requirement for the 1.8 release. If anyone disagrees with this, please contact me and we may review the decision.

Just thought I'd drag this up to the front page, as it's cool and important. Nfz has been putting Chris' PBGI work (1.8) to good use in some sample scenes using RIBMosaic. Check the forum post for some cool pictures...

We are now officially in phase 1 of the release process for 1.8. this means the features are confirmed for release, as detailed after the break, and there is a 3-4 week period during which these features will be complete (functionally).

We're happy to announce a change from the GPL to the more permissive BSD license.  Parts of the code in the latest development version have already been migrated, with more to come.

The Aqsis 1.7.0 (bleeding-edge) packages for Debian and Ubuntu have now been updated, with the latter now available through Launchpad.

Due to revised package naming we recommend uninstalling your current version and installing Aqsis again.
