The Claroline LMS project started about 5 years ago at Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, among a team constituted of technicians and pedagogs.

The project begun because at this time, the existing LMS where heavy and complicated.

I think the strong points of this LMS remain to be simplicity and lightness.

In comparison with the Dokeos project that forked from Claroline few years ago, Claroline developments are pedagogical minded.

The developpers community was quite restricted up to now. But the newly constituted Claroline Consortium, involving several higer school team, let me think that an actual international developpers community is emerging.

From a technical point of view, the LMS source code is evolving to allow independant tools development and install.

A lot of perspectives for the new developpers community ...
