New digiKam PicasaWeb export plugin...

Today, Vardhman Jain has added a new kipi-plugin into svn to export picture collections to PicasaWeb internet service.

This is a first beta release of this plugin which compile with KDE3. Features include are Uploading photos, Creating ... [More] Albums, support Tags, and resize images.

digiKam wins c't Linux photo suite comparison

The computer magazine c't compares different photo management suites for Linux in issue 14/2007. The focus is on organizing photos and the most important image editing features, like color correction, sharpening, noise reduction or effect filters. ... [More] Compared to KPhotoalbum, f-spot, picasa and GThumb, digiKam was the only program that recieved the highest rating ( ) for searching and image editing. Moreover, import/export, photo management and presentation were rated as ( ). It is worth pointing out, that digikam could win this review just with its basic features, while the professional aspects of digikam 0.9.2 like 16bit/color, advanced raw handling, color management, geo-data handling or the new light table comparison tool were not taken into account.
This review is stimulation for the whole team which is in the process of porting the program to KDE4. [Less]

digiKam KDE4 port : another brick in the wall...

This week end, Marcel has fixed the libkdcraw library to port implementation as pure Qt4. Today I have processed all regression tests with Showfoto under KDE4 with sucess.

Next stage is to update dcraw program in libkdcraw core. Currently dcraw 8.60 is used and we need an upgrate to last 8.76 to support all recent camera RAW files.

digiKam KDE4 port in progress

digiKam source code port is in progress. After 3 weeks of intensive work, digiKam core library is fully ported and Showfoto is abble to start as a KDE4 program.

Of course porting code is not perfect, and Showfoto crash quickly. Layout of ... [More] dialog and sidebar need to be cleaned duing of several changes in QT4 and KDE4 API.

Porting an application KDE3 to KDE4 is not a simple task and require time to do regression tests indeep. Also, KDE4 API are not yet frozen and cause several troubles for developpers... [Less]

The goal of digiKam KDE4 port is to have a stable release at KDE4 release date.

In svn, we have now 2 branches where we works:

KDE3 source code is in branches/extragear/kde3

Some minor regression bugs led us to another release, the 0.9.2-beta3 release including an improved light table (full size images). The 0.9.2 final release is on track for mid June publishing. This beta3 version is ... [More] rock-solid, don't hesitate to use it for production.

In order to make digiKam 0.9.2-beta3 compile you need to compile and install libkexiv2 and libkdcraw first (unless you complied them for beta[1,2] already).
