Velocity on steroids
Although Velocity is a nice template engine, I do prefer Freemarker: its macro's, string functions (upper/lowercase, html-escaping) and formatting routines (dates/numbers) come in very handy in real life applications. XML-handling isn't always as straight-forward, though.
Performance is also very good and last but not least, documentation is excellent.
