GeoidWe would like to announce an open source geological modelling program Geoid. It's main purpose is creating geological models of oil reservoirs. Compared to its main proprietary analogs it will be available under Lesser General Public License, which means that it's free for everyone and also with source code provided. For more details please read the GNU General Public License . Currently it is at the very early stage of development, with only few features implemented. I am the only developer at the moment, but open source development model's main goal is that every volunteer can help in improvement of the software.
If you are a developer, wishing to contribute to Geoid, you have to be familiar with technologies, we use. Geoid is written in C++ programming language. For 3D graphics we are using Opengl, and for user interface - Qt framework. Why particular this set of technologies? The first benefit is that they are fully cross-platform, so there's no need to modify program's code to make it available under main three platforms - UNIX, Windows and Mac OS. Qt is one of the best(and in my opinion the best) framework for graphic user interface software. So if you are good at least at C++ and geological modelling - we are pleased to invite you to the development team!
We also need somebody, who can draw nice icons, because right now it doesn't have any. The problem is that popular icon libraries like oxygen or tango doesn't have anything to do with petroleum geology :)
If you have questions of any kind we can discuss them in the Geiod's Google Group
