announcement comes on the heels of Hippo being selected as a 2012 Red
Herring Top 100 Europe winner.
Hippo enjoyed a 75% growth in the first quarter of 2011, compared to the same
period last year. This quarter's growth represents the highest in the company's
history.
Hippo is proud to make this announcement immediately after being honored with
the Red Herring's Top 100 Europe award. This list has become a mark of
distinction for identifying promising new companies and entprepreneurs. As Alex
Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring, said: "after rigorous contemplation and
discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across
Europe to the Top 100 Winners. We believe Hippo embodies the vision, drive and
innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. Hippo should be
proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was the strongest it has ever
been."
Dozens of new customers have fueled this new growth – and they span all kinds
of industries across the globe. They include government and educational
organizations such as The Dutch National Police, Indiana University Health and
City University of New York – consumer brands such as Autodesk, Dannon and
Dolce&Gabanna, Financial institution like Talmerbank and Graydon and
publishing companies such as Thomson Reuters and Sdu Publishing.
Hippo is also honored that much of this record growth comes from an
ever-increasing partner network of agencies and systems integrators. With the
addition of three new partners this last month – the company now has development
and integration partners in more than 20 countries and on six of the seven
continents. Daniel Bartl, CEO of Hippo partner comSysto, reflected the spirit of
the partnerships when he recently said "we really focus on usability and the
targeted nature of the content. Hippo CMS is a perfect fit for these types of
solutions – and we're very excited to be working with such a great team of Java
professionals."
And Hippo's commitment to open source and open standards is also leading the
way for this incredible growth. 15 new employees joined the Hippo team in the
first quarter of 2012. With team members from more than 20 different
nationalities Hippo is truly a company with global ambition. The company now has
more than 70 people on its team – and 12 of these passionate Hippo developers
are honored with being official committers within the Apache Software
foundation. Additionally, Apache Rave the open source software mashup platform
that allows developers to build and engage with an array of social network
technologies has seen tremendous participation by Hippo team members – and is
now an official "Top-Level Project" within the Apache Software foundation.
"We are extraordinarily pleased at our progress both internationally, as well
as across different vertical segments," said Jeroen Verberg, CEO at Hippo. "This
is truly a testament to how dedication to Open Source and Open Standards is
powering innovation in the enterprise. We spent a full two years in 2008 and
2009 rebuilding both the product and the company with a focus on improving each
and preparing them for growth. So, we're truly an enterprise company – with the
heart of a startup – and we're ready for this tremendous growth. It's great to
see this strategy paying off."

Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated the companies on both quantitative

startups relative to their peers, allowing Red Herring to see past the “buzz”
and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most
