The goal is to create a small hand-held device capable of storing short strings such as passwords. The storage and retrieval will be secured using AES encryption.
Currently the implementation will be based on the Zilog Z8 microprocessor. The code will be written in C and/or Z8 Assembly and targeted at the Z8 Encore XP line of processors with a few kilobytes of program ROM.
Additional requirements of the MCU chosen are a UART and another serial interface (SPI or I2C). The UART is used to communicate with a computer system for backup and administration. Likely it will interface via USB with a serial
USB chip. The other serial interface will be used with an EEPROM chip for password and settings storage.
