Joomla! 1.5.12 Released

The Joomla Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Joomla 1.5.12 [Wojmamni Ama Woi]. This release contains a number of bug fixes and three moderate-level security fixes. It has been less than a month since Joomla 1.5.11 was ... [More] released on June 3, 2009.

This release marks an important milestone for the Joomla Project due to the upgrade of the PEAR library to the new BSD licensed version, which brings the codebase into full compliance with the GPL. In addition, this release contains an important upgrade to TinyMCE v 3.2.4.1.

The Production Working Group's goal is to continue to provide regular, frequent updates to the Joomla community.

Joomla Project Leadership

Today we are proud to announce an important shift in the organisation and governance of the Joomla Project. This change is focused on making it easier to fulfill our mission, achieve our vision and remain true to our values.

Firstly, we are ... [More] simplifying the current Working Group structure. Secondly, we are changing the leadership and management of the project in a way that provides a more open and flexible structure. Thirdly, we are shifting the governance of the project to a model that reflects the increased maturity of the organisation and provides a solid foundation for sustainable growth.

These changes will bring the organisation of the Joomla Project in line with its mission to "provide a flexible platform for digital publishing and collaboration." The vision statement for the Joomla Project describes "People publishing and collaborating in their communities and around the world" and the goal of these changes is to facilitate this within the Joomla Project as well as for communities built using Joomla software. These changes developed from discussions at the Joomla Leadership Summit held in June of 2008. At that summit the core team and the board of Open Source Matters worked to clarify the mission of the project and to develop more flexible structures to carry out the work of the project. [Less]

Joomla! Resources Directory Launched

In response to overwhelming interest and requests from the Joomla community, the Joomla Project is pleased to announce the Joomla Resource Directory goes online today at resources.joomla.org. If you're a Joomla user, there's no easier way to find ... [More] developers, service providers, and other valuable resources.

"We think this will be a great way to connect end-users and service providers in the Joomla Community," said Wendy Robinson of the JRD Team."Most small businesses can't afford to advertise on the Joomla.org sites and this will provide them wide exposure. With close to a million visitors and 14 million page views a month, the JED has proven that there is wide interest in products related to Joomla."

The JRD builds on the success of the JED—the most popular place to find Joomla Extensions. Both are powered by the Mosets Tree 2.1 directory extension, a GPL extension that also powers the Joomla Site Showcase.

If you're a service provider, listing in the Resource Directory is free of charge (premium listings will be offered in the future for a fee). This includes consultants, template designers, tutorial sites, and just about any other Joomla service. Users can post reviews of these services and share their experiences with the community. Community Showcase Now Online

The Joomla Project is pleased to announce our latest undertaking to promote sites using Joomla—our new Joomla Community Showcase. The showcase is a hub for community users to share sites they've discovered or built themselves.

Launching ... [More] today with just over 100 sites, the showcase has a wide range of categories—arts, education, business, sports, non-profits and more. It's designed in the same familiar layout as the Joomla Extensions Directory so users will be able to quickly find what they're looking for.

Submitting a Web Site
It's easy to submit a site for inclusion in the showcase. You'll need to register first on the showcase site and be sure to read the Guidelines for Submission before submitting. Make sure the site isn't already in the showcase by doing a search first. Not all sites will be accepted into the showcase so make sure your site meets the guidelines. Ideally, it's a site that shows off the power and extensibility of Joomla.

We also expect you to add site thumbnails (not logos) to your submission. If you only have one, that's fine. But if you have more, make sure they show off a variety of layouts—otherwise all your thumbnails will look identical.

Remember, it takes time to verify each site submission we receive so sites will not be automatically added immediately. Careful not to add too many of your own sites at once or you might be considered a spammer. We recommend you submit no more than 10 sites each month.

Site of the Month
Each month, we will highlight a Web site that demonstrates exemplary quality, flexibility, and design. If you want your site to be considered, make sure you fill out all the site information accurately and thoroughly.

Site Case Studies
While site descriptions are a general overview of the site and/or company, case studies are a way to delve deeper into the mechanics of the site, how it was built, what problems it solved, and how it fit into the overall strategy of the company. It's a way to give other Joomla users insight into the process and what extensions were used. We encourage site creators to write detailed case studies. If your site has a good case study, you'll exponentially increase your chances of being awarded the Site of the Month.

Tagging your Submissions
The showcase also has a built-in tagging system to more clearly identify site traits. Add as many tags as you want (up to 80 characters) but don't repeat tags or add redundant information.

Room to Grow
We feel that this site will grow rapidly so have started with a small number of basic site categories wth the expectation that they will become more refined and extensive over time, adpating to the needs of the community. So get started submitting Joomla sites now! [Less]

Remember, it takes time to verify each site submission we receive so sites will not be automatically added immediately. Careful not to add too many of your own sites at once or you might be considered a spammer. We recommend you submit no more than 10 sites each month.

Site of the Month
Each month, we will highlight a Web site that demonstrates exemplary quality, flexibility, and design. If you want your site to be considered, make sure you fill out all the site information accurately and thoroughly.

Site Case Studies
While site descriptions are a general overview of the site and/or company, case studies are a way to delve deeper into the mechanics of the site, how it was built, what problems it solved, and how it fit into the overall strategy of the company. It's a way to give other Joomla users insight into the process and what extensions were used. We encourage site creators to write detailed case studies. If your site has a good case study, you'll exponentially increase your chances of being awarded the Site of the Month.

Tagging your Submissions
The showcase also has a built-in tagging system to more clearly identify site traits. Add as many tags as you want (up to 80 characters) but don't repeat tags or add redundant information.
