Current implementations of "big Grids" (EGEE/WLCG, Int.EU.Grid, ...) are based on very complex software layers which make the deployment and maintenance of the infrastructure a real headache. Additionally, by using many software layers which in addition use polling mechanisms, the feeling of using it is much more close to batch systems than to interactive ones, which are needed sometimes.

These characteristics of existing Grid software prevent many organizations from benefiting of the good side of Grids: sharing computational resources that are otherwise wasted, distributed computing with location transparency, etc.

So this project intends to provide that kind of software for a laboratory as a proof-of-concept implementation.
