MicroFinance Open Source by the Grameen Foundation. The suite is designed to provide an open software platform for administration of the loans and customers of Microfinance Organizations. The base suite includes basic microfinance functionality and is designed to be extended to support the development and sharing of new microfinance products. The base suite supports a browser interface, and is designed to be database independent. A lot of thought has been given to the database schema to ensure portability and scalability.

The Grameen Foundation's Technology Center, which administers the project , is a not-for-profit entity which exists to provide technology to support Microfinance around the world.

    Contribute to Mifos!

Mifos is an industry-wide initiative to address the microfinance industry's information management challenge. Using the open source paradigm, we are creating a new service model that will increase access to technology for all microfinance ... [More] institutions, ultimately enabling them to extend their reach to the world’s poor.

At the center of the initiative is the Mifos product, a freely available world-class management information system (MIS) that provides the core functionality required by microfinance institutions. The flexibility and scalability of the product means that we'll be able to simultaneously standardize common processes, accommodate regional variations, and scale for new innovations in the future.

Code development for the project is rapidly progressing so we’re always seeking more volunteer developers to join the effort.

Please visit the Developer Kickstart page at http://www.mifos.org/developers to learn more and begin participating.
