The preamp project is a media library system with a client/server architecture.
The server is hosting a media library that can be accessed via http protocoll so lots of different client-frontends can be created.
The development is concentrated on music playback, especially mp3, due one of the features will be complete persistent storing of all meta information in id3 tag fields maintaining all id3 standards.
Video file support may be a long term feature
The server program is written in pyhton using an postgreSQL backend and can be accessed by a standard http webserver like apache.
The first frontend is beeing created in java 1.6 and will support audio only.
Both server and client are currently running in an early state but they can be tested. Also the server API provides already the basic functionallity for creating your own frontend.
