The goal of this project is creating free software with two main functions:

Retrieving pieces of data from a scanned document (an image) with predefined structure and saving the system of these image pieces as a document. Recognition of handwritten digits in fields of this document.

The main planned technical features are:

Using an artificial neural network with special input vector for recognition. Using XML for creating structure and storing document data. Creating the editor for document structure. Export to ODT and PDF formats. Retrieving images directly from scanner.

Development will be based on C++ and Qt 4.5. The project will be used primarily on GNU/Linux and MS Windows, but support for other platforms is supposed. If a certain level of success is achieved, splitting the project to two branches (GUI frontend and toolkit independent library for using in another projects) will be possible.

This project is started as scientific project / diploma project by students of ICS ONPU, Odessa, Ukraine.
