Quattor is a system administration toolkit providing a powerful, portable and modular toolsuite for the automated installation, configuration and management of clusters and farms running UNIX derivates like Linux and Solaris. At its heart, it has a powerful language, Pan, for describing configuration. One of its distinctive feature is pre-deployment checks.
This tool has been developed over 10 years in the context of the European grid, EGEE, to handle grid site management. But it can be used in many other contexts: non-grid servers, desktops, virtual machines and more.
It is currently used by sites managing from a few 10s of nodes to several thousands, one managing 15K nodes with a single Quattor instance. Outside the grid world it is used by a couple of very large commercial companies.
