Redmine

Not many trackers support the multiple project support.

I wasn't testing many project management systems.
I tested trac but was absolutely disappointed when it was running as separate server and loaded my CPU at 100% for 1-2 secs for each request i made.

When i first saw Redmine i thought: that will be the project management system i will use!
So i installed it and the more i was digging into it's settings the more i liked it.

It supports many projects in single instance.
I also can separate privileges in it the way only people needing access to single project will log in and see _that_single_project_ i registered them for. While there can be many other projects he will not see(if i don't mark them as public) and will not access even if he knows it's name and URL.

Basically I was looking for a project management environment only for myself. Recently i was using plain text files to plan and write down all stuff around project i develop. Yes i can say it sometimes easier, but I also needed to track and see my code changes. So i needed also some easy web-based repository browser. And redmine is good for this purpose.

By now i can say it is the best set of scripts for web server i ever saw! I mean i was looking through many CMS/engines for websites but this one's UI completely differs from anything i've seen before.

If talk about default theme: nice colors that I seen somewhere already and really got used to them so they look good for me.

Theme doesn't containing any stupidness like "transparent glass"-buttons and other controls that usually makes me mad and I trash the software with that kind of UI.

Fast javascript code in the places where it really needs to be, not everywhere. So it's balanced JS usage, that doesn't slows down but accelerates process of doing things.

And the best of all, it is really fast! It doesn't kills my PC with heavy CPU loading or long response time from 127.0.0.1, which many other web engines do because of their bad way of coding.

I also can set up my nginx webserver the way it will proxy requests from my domain to ruby webserver of Redmine.

Long story short: i really enjoy every moment of using Redmine. And i will advice it to anyone who is looking for easy and _fast_ project management environment. :)

Redmine is very useful for maintaining projects, especially web application. This is not just a bug-tracker, or repository viewer, with Redmine you get the whole project management application.

Using Redmine you can build standalone project page with everything you need (news, wiki, documents, files, source, forum, issues). You can show it to the world in the way you want.

Amazing user/role management gives full control on the project. You can choose which module is visible for anonymous user, which for developer, which for any other user you define. You can set read, insert, edit permissions on single system module for chosen user/group.

Redmine is, hands down, the best task management solution I've ever come across. The only drawback I've experienced with it is that if you're unfamiliar setting up Rails applications there's definitely a learning curve.

Beside that, Redmine has been a major boon to the development of my current project. With a very clean, well designed and well polished interface, Redmine looks and feels professional. It's interface is very intuitive with a short learning curve which is a key point for our particular needs.

Also included with it is a built-in Wiki which, while not as powerful as MediaWiki, is well integrated with Redmine and makes internal linking very easy. It also includes the ability to upload files which is very useful as well.

The other key feature is the repository feature which works with several of the most popular source version control schemes (we use Subversion). It's extremely helpful to be able to link commit notes with issues.

Other interesting features that I haven't had the chance to take advantage of yet include Project News, Forums and a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll leave the reviews for these features up to others but if they're anything like the rest of Redmine than I'm sure they're more than adequate for anybody's needs.

If you're not afraid of learning how to set up Rails applications (or to learn how) than this is absolutely the solution you should be using! Redmine raises the bar for FOSS task management solutions.
