Creative Freedom Foundation

Yesterday, the Creative Freedom Foundation launched. What is it? It's a group of Kiwis raising awareness around some terrible legislation that's set to go into law in about two months' time.

The CFF is focusing on the "Guilt by accusation" ... [More] amendments to New Zealand copyright law. From their press release:

The Creative Freedom Foundation's first campaign is against a proposed law in New Zealand: Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act. S92 assumes 'Guilt Upon Accusation' - cutting off internet connections and websites based on accusations of Copyright infringement, without evidence or even a trial.

Foundation Co-Founder and Director, Bronwyn Holloway-Smith says: "The result of this law could be that one rogue employee or even one virus infected computer could bring down a whole organisation's internet and it's highly likely that schools, businesses, hospitals, and phone services will be harmed by this."

On 28 February 2009, S92 will come into effect in New Zealand if there is no positive action on the part of the Government to change it. To date the Government has shown support for the bill and, unless there is major public protest against it, it will "roll over" in to law.

If it goes through, this will expose businesses in New Zealand to undue risk. When businesses are trying to increase the amount of exports from New Zealand and compete more effectively in a global market, why hamper one of critical lifelines -- Internet-based business? It simply does not make sense.

The CFF has a "What can I do?" page with more details. Please check it out and sign the petition. New Zealand simply cannot afford to let this go through. Thanks. [Less]

Welcome to our new website!

Welcome to our newly re-designed website! The launch of our new SilverStripe.com and SilverStripe.org sites is a big deal to us and we hope you find the changes useful.

One of the things we wanted to improve over the old ... [More] SilverStripe.com site was to have a more clear distinction between information about our open source software and information about our company. We got a lot of feedback from developers and clients which centered around the fact that they couldn't find what they needed on our site. So we decided to create SilverStripe.org and have that as the home for all things related to our open source product.

As we started splitting out the content from the .com to a new .org, we pretty quickly realised a site re-design was in order. We enlisted the help of an extaordinairy designer, Sally Flewelling (moc.liamg@gnillewelfyllas), who guided us through the design process. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and so a big Thank You goes to her. We'd also like to thank Daisuke Maki for the very generous donation of the SilverStripe.org domain name to us. Finally, thank you to all the SilverStripe employees, especially the ones putting in extra hours to make these two sites happen (alongside multiple client site launches!): Sean Harvey, Saophalkun Ponlu, James Kirkus-Lamont, Michael Andrewartha, Will Rossiter, Sam Minnée, and our project manager leading the charge: Sibylle Schwarz. Thanks guys, you seriously rock.

So, to sum up:

SilverStripe.com for commercial stuff

SilverStripe.org for open source stuff

We've put a "give feedback" link at the bottom of each page. If you have comments about the new sites, please let us know.

Enjoy!
