tarlimit is a simple command line utility designed to create backups of their data onto fixed media.

If the data being archived is larger than the selected media, the data must be split up and placed on several separate disks.

tarlimit is the solution to this problem, which would otherwise be solved manually. It will take a directory and archive it, starting a new archive whenever it nears the user specified size limit.

tarlimit has a website

Up until now, the only place to find information on tarlimit was the sourceforge pages. In my experience, though, a simple web site is better for a quick overview of a program, especially if you aren't familiar with sourceforge. Check it out: http://tarlimit.sourceforge.net/ (0 comments)

brennydoogles has joined the project and will be working on Spanish translations of tarlimit. (tarlimit trivia: brennydoogles posted on the ubuntu forums looking for a way to create archives of a folder without exceeding the size of a DVD. The script I made was popular enough that I decided to continue development.) (0 comments)

SVN now in use

tarlimit is now making use of the svn repository service offered by Sourceforge. You can browse the svn repository to see (and get) the latest features/fixes in development. Look under the "code" tab for more information ... [More] about.

As always, only the tagged releases made available in the download section are considered "stable". (0 comments) [Less]
