I posted some new videos that show the new interface side-by-side with the old interface to compare some of the functionality. Check them out at:

Let me know if they are helpful at all, or if you have suggestions for other types of tutorials you’d like to see.

I found this 3d browser plugin while searching for “topmod” on google, called 3d Life Player. It’s part of a project by Dassault Systems, makers of Catia. It looks like their goal is to bring 3d to the web browser (news report), like so many

others who haven’t quite gotten there yet. Why can’t there just be a simple OpenGL firefox extension?
Here is an example of it being used with a TopMod model:

That site is also a pet project of Dassault Systems called 3dvia.com. The model pages give you vertex and polygon counts as well as file sizes, and the embedded 3d Life Player. It looks like it runs pretty smoothly with a relatively complex model, but of course, you have to install the plugin and restart firefox in order to get it to work. Here is some more information about the player:

and for anyone curious, here is a little more info about Dassault Systemes:

Google Finance
and yet even more information, for all the French speakers out there, this apears to be a nice comparison chart for 3d browser technologies:

UPDATE: This player seems to crash firefox 2.0.0.6 on OS/X ALL THE TIME. Use at your own risk. [Less]
