We have been working on Apache Friends and XAMPP for over 10 years now. We still have a lot of ideas on how to continue to improve it, but as the project grows it has become harder to find the time and resources needed to implement a lot of them. We ... [More] have joined forces with BitNami to continue to improve XAMPP. BitNami provides a free library of web applications that can be installed anywhere. They are big open source supporters, have a lot of experience packaging Apache and we believe they will do a great job of improving BitNami moving forward. Please see below for some words from BitNami co-founder Daniel Lopez

Dear XAMPP users,

At BitNami, we have been great admirers of XAMPP and what it has accomplished: making it easier for programmers everywhere to quickly setup and run their own local web development environments. We had a similar goal of making web apps easier to install anywhere, whether in your laptop or in the cloud. When Kay and Kai suggested a few months ago the possibility of joining forces with them to take over maintenance of XAMPP, it was an easy decision for us. Over the next weeks and months we will be working to continue to improve XAMPP. A big chunk of our expertise is in crossplatform installation and apps. Among other things we plan to:

- Improve the existing installers
- Improve the bundled Control Panel
- Make it easy to install and develop with Drupal, Joomla!, WordPress, etc. on XAMPP
- Improve 64bit support, PostgreSQL, additional languages (i.e. Python)
- Improved Linux and OS X support
- Improve the website look and feel

As a first step, we have made BitNami for XAMPP, a one-click installer that will allow you to install Drupal, Joomla! and WordPress on top of your existing XAMPP installation.

As newcomers, we are looking to the XAMPP community to help us with the transition by providing us with feedback and ideas on how to continue to improve XAMPP. Please use the XAMPP forums or feel free to email me directly at daniel@bitnami.org with any suggestions or comments.

What's the best thing to do on a Sunday night? Correct, get a new XAMPP version out to the Internet. Of course, what else? And here it is again, an updated XAMPP.

The most important updates are: Apache 2.4.3, MySQL 5.5.27, PHP 5.4.7, and ... [More] phpMyAdmin 3.5.2.2.

Yes, last Friday Oracle released a new MySQL 5.5.28. This version is not part of XAMPP. The time was to short to include this also in this release.

Again, we're not able to get also the Mac OS X version updated. Time is the problem. Is there anyone out there with good knowledge about GCC and AMP on Mac OS X?

The XAMPP 2012 survey is now over. Thank you to all who participated and helped us to get answers to our questions. Exactly 2674 individuals participated in the survey and responded with 97938 single answers in total.

It will take some time ... [More] for us to go through the results, but if you're curious about the raw results, please feel free to look at the linked PDF. Thank you all again and hopefully you’ll find this data as interesting as we do.

Last May XAMPP became 10 years old and we think this is a good time to think again about changes and improvements to XAMPP. That's what this survey is for: to find out what are your needs and what we can do to improve XAMPP in future ... [More] releases.

The survey will run for about one month (until end of September), after which we will publish the results right here.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. We appreciate your feedback and we will use it to make XAMPP even more useful and enjoyable.

After several months of hard work we are proud to announce a new release of XAMPP for Windows and Linux.

The most important updates are: Apache 2.4.2, MySQL 5.5.25a, PHP 5.4.4, and phpMyAdmin 3.5.1.

After this release we will ... [More] focus again on the Mac OS X version of XAMPP. Sorry, for the delay, we're simply short on man power.

It took nearly eight months to get this new version of XAMPP released. A long time, but somehow this year it was harder than usual. Alone in the last four weeks, there were two new versions of Apache, two new versions of PHP and even two new versions ... [More] of MySQL.

But let's get to the point: What's new in this version?

This time we updated Apache to 2.2.21, MySQL to 5.5.16, PHP to 5.3.8, and phpMyAdmin to 3.4.5, as well as the usual minor updates of libraries or system-specific components.

Also new: There's now a Solaris version for x86 processors and both Solaris versions now support the PHP Oracle extension out-of-the-box, i.e. there is no installation of additional libraries needed to access an Oracle database.

All downloads and further details about the new versions are available at the respective XAMPP project page.

PS: Congratulations to the Berlin Pirates! ;) [Less]

Here they are at last: new versions for Windows, Linux and Solaris.

The good news: The Solaris version has left beta status and is for the first time available as a full XAMPP version (currently only for SPARC, but we'll present a first x86 ... [More] version at CeBIT next month). The bad news: There is no updated version for Mac OS X yet and for Windows, there will be no automated update from 1.7.3 to 1.7.4. We're very sorry about this.

In all three versions we updated: Apache to 2.2.17, MySQL to 5.5.8, PHP to 5.3.5 and phpMyAdmin to 3.3.9, as well as minor updates in the libraries or system-specific components.
