Awesome middleground!

  by greyed

XFCE is an awesome middle ground between the spartan Window Managers such as FVWM and the heavyweight Desktop Environments such as KDE/GNOME. It offers the built-in configuration and basic tools that one expects from a full desktop environment but on a much smaller footprint. Great for limited resource machines that are still viable for productivity work.

Excellent for the power user

I've been using Xfce for a while now, and it's become an excellent user-friendly desktop environment with version 4.4. It's too bad people tend to use it as a "last resort". This way, people do not get the best experience (i.e. they associate slow computing with Xfce) and thus do not fully experience how easy-to-use Xfce is yet allows you to customize a *lot*.

Xfce is my favorite over both Gnome and KDE, Why?

  by Tukotih

Xfce is fast, it doesn't crash, has fewer graphics issues. It works great at an 433MHz machine at home, where Gnome barely doesn't work because of all the issues (Menu's Blacked-out).

It loads at the half speed of KDE, and a little bit faster than Gnome.

Easy to customize, alot to customize.
Loginscreen looks great, clean look.

And doesn't crash, and actually responds most of the time (*cough* Gnome, Windows *cough*)

So my point is...
ALL HAIL THE XFCE MOUSE :D
