Google Web Toolkit (GWT) is an open source Java software development framework that makes writing AJAX applications like Google Maps and Gmail easy for developers who don't speak browser quirks as a second language. Writing dynamic web applications today is a tedious and error-prone process; you spend 90% of your time working around subtle incompatibilities between web browsers and platforms.

Google Web Toolkit Hosted and Web Mode explain

    Vinay j :

When you invoked a GWT application you were using what Google calls
hosted mode. Hosted mode is only used during development.
When in production, your application will be running in web mode.
Before going any further in ... [More] using GWT you need to understand the difference
between the two. Note that as of this writing, hosted mode is only available on
    Windows and Linux.

    MiniG - powered by GWT

MiniG  is a webmail implementation with a GMail like user interface. It
is completely free software and is designed to work
    with Cyrus IMAP servers.
MiniG uses a distributed architecture. Its GWT user interface comunicates with
a ... [More] REST webservice responsible of full text indexing, grouping of email as
conversations and communication with addressbook data sources. The backend
webservice is written using Eclipse OSGi technologies to provide great
    modularity.

GWT - Strictly limited to Java developers ? No !

This is a slide extract from John Resig presentation. Even if I respect a
lot John for JQuery, I don't agree with him about what he thinks about GWT :
GWT is not about java. It is about using a object oriented language to build
ajax ... [More] applications. And I think that Javascript, PHP and .NET developers will
    love GWT.
