In December 07 we released openSpeak 0.1RC1. It’s main goal was to give testers something to bite and give a little kick to the developers who where asleep at that time (I was part of those :) ).
Usually Release Candidate means Feature

Freeze, but it was really not the case with this one !
You should see a v0.1RC2 soon and this one will be a true release candidate, solving some problems of the RC1 that were not acceptable to let “as is” in a final version : sound was crappy and it didn’t work on Mac due to a buggy netcode.
Features highlights of the forthcoming 0.1RC2 :
Mac support (in addition of Linux and Windows)
Improved netcode stability
Better sound quality (thanks to a jitter buffer implementation)
Better looking chat windows
Lower latency (about -50% on LAN) (no yet in the SVN trunk)
So stay tuned ! [Less]

As I mentioned it on my site, openSpeak on Mac OS X is on the way :)
Our bug tracking system shows that we are very close to a new 0.1rc release
Apart from issues with the client backend on Mac OSX, all we need is testing and we

would really appreciate your feedback!
As soon as we’ll have something stable on Mac, I’ll update the Wiki and write a specific page for build instructions on Mac, though they are very similar to Linux. [Less]

The openSpeak team is reporting back after a long period without any news or updates. We even brought something with us: a new website and the first release candidate of version 0.1 of openSpeak.
Our new website might still have smaller bugs

or viewing issues (especially if you’re using Internet Explorer (what you surely shouldn’t do)). If you found one of those, please add a bug report (maybe with a small picture) to our bugtracker or send us an email (see the team page for email addresses).
As the website, the release candidate probably got some bigger or smaller bugs or GUI problems and we would be happy if you could give us some informations by adding a bug to the bugtracker or just talking with us about it on irc. We released this version because we haven’t found the time to do some extensive testing (especially with more than 2 people talking) in the last half year. We’re all pretty busy at the moment and can’t spend as much time on openSpeak as we would like to. So if you got a server or shell, feel free to test and use openSpeak with your friends and report back to us how your experience was, what could be better or what bugs you’ve found. To get the release candidate check out our sf.net download page

I am happy to announce that our little break is over and we’ve started working on openSpeak again. One big help was our new member kubrick who joined us lately and is currently working on an audio mixer. This will be the last big piece of work to
... [More]
be done before we can announce a feature freeze for the upcoming 0.1 release. Everything after that will only contain smaller or bigger bug fixes but should already be quite usable.
Audio is generally the section where the most work has and had to be done. Every other sections are mostly stable and only need smaller fixes.
Other big updates have been done for the documentation. I am currently adding doxygen comments to our source code to ease reading the code and to generate high quality source code documentation. For more informations on doxygen take a look at their homepage. Also I’ve done a overhaul for the wiki, especially the front page and the building instructions separately for Windows and Linux. Shortly after the 0.1 we also hope to be able to release a new homepage design which unifies all three big parts (news, wiki, bugtracker) under one layout. It will also contain our new logo created by CryptoQuick.
If there are some Windows programmers out there reading this, they might also check our bugtracker cause we still got some really annoying Windows related problems. Most members of the team are running linux so we havent got that many chances to test openSpeak on Windows.
Note for French readers : you’ll find news, useful and useless informations about openSpeak on Kubrick’s web site. [Less]
