AppFuse is an open source project and application that uses open source tools built on the Java platform to help you develop Web applications quickly and efficiently. It was originally developed to eliminate the ramp-up time found when building new web applications for customers. At its core, AppFuse is a project skeleton, similar to the one that's created by your IDE when you click through a wizard to create a new web project.

AppFuse 1.x uses Ant to create your project, as well as build/test/deploy it. AppFuse 2.x uses Maven 2 to create your project as well as build/test/deploy it. IDE support is much better in 2.x because you can generate the IDE project files with Maven plugins. AppFuse 1.x uses XDoclet and JDK 1.4+. AppFuse 2.x uses annotations and JDK 5+.

Spring is a lightweight Java/J2EE application framework based on code published in "Expert One-on-One J2EE Design and Development" by Rod Johnson. It includes powerful JavaBeans-based configuration management applying Inversion-of-Control principles, a generic abstraction layer for transaction management allowing for pluggable transaction managers, a JDBC abstraction layer, integration with Hibernate, JDO, Apache OJB, and iBATIS SQL Maps, AOP functionality, and a flexible MVC Web application framework with multiple view technologies. There is also a .NET port available.

Hibernate is a powerful, high performance object/relational persistence and query service for Java. It lets you develop persistent objects following common Java idiom, including composition, association, inheritance, polymorphism, and the Java collections framework. To allow a rapid build procedure, Hibernate rejects the use of code generation or bytecode processing. Instead, runtime reflection is used and SQL generation occurs at system startup time. It supports Oracle, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Sybase, Interbase, Microsoft SQL Server, Mckoi SQL, Progress, SAP DB, and HypersonicSQL.

Dojo is a modular JavaScript toolkit that makes building richer web UI's much easier.

Dojo builds on a fast, lightweight base that provides a competitive set of features (DOM traversal, AJAX, animations, event handling) at the same size as many of the alternative "lightweight" toolkits.

On top of that base Dojo provides easy access to an extensive collection of optional modules, including a widget framework that focuses on accessibility and internationalization, 2D and 3D charting and vector graphics, advanced math functions, offline capabilities, cryptography, and much much more. It also comes with a build system that collects and minifies your files into layers that you can include in your page as needed to simplify deployment and improve performance.

An agile dynamic language for the Java Platform with many features that are inspired by languages like Python, Ruby and Smalltalk, making them available to Java developers using a Java-like syntax. Developing web applications , writing shell scripts easily, writing concise, meaningful, test cases using Groovy's JUnit integration, or prototyping and producing real industrial strength applications have never been so concise and groovy.

From a code point of view, Equinox is an implementation of the OSGi R4 core framework specification, a set of bundles that implement various optional OSGi services and other infrastructure for running OSGi-based systems.

More generally, the goal of the Equinox project is to be a first class OSGi community and foster the vision of Eclipse as a landscape of bundles.
