Spek is a Vala and Gtk-based interactive program to display spectrograms of audio/video using a variety of codecs supported by the ffmpeg library. Spekle is a fork of Alexander Kojevnikov's "spek 0.6" which doesn't require an X $DISPLAY to be set, takes numerous ... [More] command-line-options, and is desgined to operate in "batch" mode. It's basically a brute-force cleansing of all Gtk code, leaving behind the Gdk, Cairo, Pango, FFmpeg, avfft and Vala core. Spek's Vala code for rendering spectrograms is very compact and gives room for a lot of experimentation, including use of different window functions (currently Hamming). Spek uses avfft which is perhaps faster than fftw and already built into FFmpeg. Spek offers efficiency via direct C-level calls to FFmpeg’s libavformat and libavcodec. [Less]
