Background Two years ago the IPFW Computer Science ... [More] Department decided to enhance their assess process by defining specific learning outcomes for each undergraduate course. These learning outcomes are explicitly associated with ABET program learning outcomes and hence provide a means to ensure that the CS curriculum remains aligned with accreditation requirements. At the end of the semester students complete a learning outcomes survey. The survey is distributed in class, perhaps on the same day as the traditional course evaluations. Survey results are tallied by the Department’s administrative assistant and given to the instructor. The instructor then has the opportunity to add comments to explain the results and to indicate what changes might be made to better achieve the learning outcomes. The final report is then shared with the Chair and Associate Chair. Participation in the survey process is determined by what students are in attendance on the day the instructor decides to perform the assessment. This has resulted in uneven participation and difficulty in comparing results between different sections of the same course or between different semester offerings of the same course. Tallying the results is a time consuming process, and determining historical trends even moreso. In addition, the reports are stored as Excel files with no indexing information other than the name of the file. The Department desires a more effective method for delivering these surveys, tallying their results, and communicating them to interested parties. Users Primary users of this system will be IPFW Computer Science students, instructional personnel (professors, limited term lecturers, and graduate teaching assistants) and administrators. Students will access the system to fill out a course learning outcomes survey near the end of the semester. Instructional personnel will be able to view reports for their courses and add comments to explain both explain survey results and indicate what changes they plan to make to better achieve learning outcomes. Administrators will have access to all reports. Preliminary RequirementsSystem RequirementsUser authentication and authorization. All users must login to access system functions. Users may only perform system operations for which they are authorized. Online survey presentation and data collection. See attached sample survey. Non-functional RequirementsThe system must be accessible via the web. The system must handle all undergraduate courses used in the ABET-accredited Computer Science degree program. Các ràng buộc về thiết kế và thực hiện: Hệ thống được chia ra làm 2 phần (front-end và back-end) chạy trên các hệ thống máy tính khac nhau giao tiếp với nhau thông qua hệ thống mạng Internet. Người quản trị tạo thông tin cho doanh nghiệp và tạo bộ dữ liệu điều tra ban đầu dựa trên bộ thông tin ngành nghề được khởi tạo trước. Khi doanh nghiệp đăng nhập vào hệ thống thông qua VBIS, VBIS sẽ sử dụng dịch vụ tại Server để kiểm tra thông tin, tính hợp lệ của người sử dụng được lưu trữ trong cơ sở dữ liệu. VBIS hiển thị những thông tin về kết quả điều tra cho doanh nghiệp xem. Các thông tin này được cập nhật mới mỗi khi có dữ liệu mới gửi đến VBIS và được đồng bộ vào hệ thống VBIS thông qua phương thức nhân bản dữ liệu (replication). Sau khi đọc các thông tin về điều tra doanh nghiệp, doanh nghiệp có thể sử dụng giao diện điều tra doanh nghiệp để thực hiện các điều tra trực tuyến trên hệ thống VBIS. Thông tin được chuyển vào trong hệ thống CSDL của VBIS. Các lệnh thông tin điều tra này của doanh nghiệp được chia ra và hiển thị lên hệ thống back-end của VBIS. Điều tra xong, doanh nghiệp có thể làm những tác vụ như theo dõi xu hướng phát triển dựa trên ý kiến chuyên gia, vv.. Môi trường hoạt động: Hệ thống cần phải tương tác, làm việc được với My SQL 5, XML version 1.0, PHP 5, Apache. VBIS front-end chạy được trên các máy trạm với cấu hình tùy ý dưới Internet Explorer hoặc Mozilla Firefox.
