Ostin project is based on (and is developed in loose coordination with) KolibriOS. It offers strict code formatting and commenting guidelines as well as proper documentation. While Kolibri is mostly developed by Russian/ex-USSR community, Ostin tries to be as much international as possible. Ostin ... [More] is also strictly assembly-only, just-for-fun operating system. AboutModern real-world operating systems are too complex to be taught to undergraduates and other instructional operating systems are not complete and usable and do not work on real hardware. By providing students with a not so complex working operating system to play with, they will be able to ... [More] appreciate and understand deeper the concepts underlying an operating system. Thus, this project aims to develop a simple yet operational instructional operating system for teaching undergraduate operating systems courses. ICS-OS is a fork of DEX-OS by Joseph Dayo. I have learnt assembly programming through "The Art of Assembly" by Randall Hyde. It introduces assembly through a very special kind of language: HLA or High Level Assembly. It's Randall Hyde "own" assembly language. I love it. I have learnt about operating systems through ... [More] the Minix book by Andrew Tanenbaum. This project is my intent to combine the knowledge I have gained from reading these two books (and a couple of resources on computer architecture). As far as I know, I'm the first person to write an OS in HLA. Enjoy! [Less]

[Less]
