FFmpeg

FFmpeg is a complete solution to record, convert and stream audio and video. It includes libavcodec, the leading audio/video codec library. FFmpeg is mostly developed under Linux, but portable to operating systems, including Windows.

FLAC - Free Lossless Audio Codec

FLAC is a Free Lossless Audio Codec. The FLAC format supports streaming, seeking, and archival, and gives 25-75% compression on typical CD audio. Input plugins for Winamp and XMMS are also provided.
