The Block AgeAn Open-source MORPG game project for Windows and XBox360"The Block Age" is is an open-source Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game project. Our purpose is to build the 'ideal' game in terms of roleplay, by having players directly involved in the game evolution by ... [More] giving them the ability to interact and customize its world directly, and to face intellectual challenges by solving brainstorming problems. Since a long time we have lost tracks of the good old RPGs. Most of today's RPG games are remakes of famous 1990's ones, with better graphics but a dramatically simplified set of gameplay rules. They usually target a broader audience , and a young public. Recent RPG games became boring for a number of mature players : simple combat rules, straightforward storyline, dumb quests. These games don't require anymore too much thinking nor intellectual involvement from the players. We want to change this. We want to build a game where you need your brain to play. We want to satisfy those mature players (us), who naturally focus more on the gameplay complexity, the world customizability. They need more challenges, they need to use their brain. Why does RPG always defines a game where the player's primary goal is leveling the character, getting more money, getting more power ? We think that those daily life's problems generate stress and should be taken away from a recreational game. Players want to forget their stress. By such, the ideal game should bring people together for different reasons but money and power. Players need other centres of interests when playing. We want a game where we actually use our brain, and play for the gameplay richness and complexity, not just for its graphics. We don't want a beautiful game, with the latest 3D features or great art. Instead, we need a simple environment but with rich gameplay rules. That's as much as we can tell from now, but you are welcome to join our forums if you want to be involved, share your ideas and skills in that project. The more we are, the best the game will be.
