The gEDA project has produced and continues working on a full GPL'd suite of Electronic Design Automation tools. These tools are used for electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation ... [More] , prototyping, and production. Currently, the gEDA project offers a mature suite of free software applications for electronics design, including schematic capture, attribute management, bill of materials (BOM) generation, netlisting into over 20 netlist formats, analog and digital simulation, and printed circuit board (PCB) layout. ObjectEDA fully integrates schematic design, logic design, and PCB design functions by concentrating on the object model. Basically an electronic design consists of parts and nets. All other objects ... [More] are related to one of these two. A wire on a schematic is just a human visible representation of a net. So is a track or a via on a PCB. Similarly a symbol or a footprint are representations of a part. The internal workings of a part can be described by code, configuration or data. [Less]

gplCAD is an independent free / open source software project working on a software framework for developing Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. The gplCAD framework is not constrained to a particular ... [More] CAD domain or paradigm. Making it straightforward to change or extend the framework is the most fundamental design considerations of this project. Even though the primary focus of this project is to create a framework, a functional implementation ("gcd") will be written using the framework. The target audience of gplCAD is the developers working on the project and hackers who are working on free/open source hardware/software projects. Individuals who are doing closed / proprietary work are not the target audience for gplCAD. [Less]
