It could be integrated in any educational institution and allows students to attend classes through their computer. ... [More] The system contains a server-side C# web application which permits the management of users, groups and offered classes. It also contains a java application for teachers and gives them the opportunity to interact with students as if they would be in a real class. Their classes are also recorded so students will be able to access them in the future. The java application for students gives them chat features and has a media player integrated to view the online class. Once a class is complete, the new recorded video is indexed using Coveo's Enterprise Search system with the Audio-Video add-on so both teacher and student will be able to search in the newly added content. The project was launched in summer 2003, motivated by the fact that there was no good graphical SILC client available. There was obvious demand for an easy to use client, as at the time there was only ... [More] one fully featured client and it was a textual client. First proof-of-concept version of Silky was drafted together quickly in couple of days, and it got some people interested in developing a fully featured graphical client. Now, after year and a half and with contributions from many friendly people Silky is starting to look and feel like a real chat client. [Less]
