Decentralization is the key principle. The storage is distributed, where "distribute" stands for "share", not just "replicate". The "fine-grained distribution" means that two linked storages not necessarily mirror each other but rather reference each other and ... [More] cache the referenced data. A resource in a storage can reference a resource in another storage; the referenced one will be copied if needed. It can also be "forked", i.e. copied and modified "locally" with no regard to original version. If user/system then tries to synchronize the versions, conflicts may emerge.
