GNOME

The GNOME project provides two things: The GNOME desktop environment, an intuitive and attractive desktop for users, and the GNOME development platform, an extensive framework for building applications that integrate into the rest of the desktop.

Fedora is a free operating system that offers the best combination of stable and cutting-edge software that exists in the free software world.

Kubuntu

Kubuntu is a a user friendly operating system based on KDE, the K Desktop Environment. With a predictable 6 month release cycle and part of the Ubuntu project, Kubuntu is the GNU/Linux distribution for everyone.

Xfce (Core)

Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. This Ohloh project only contains the core components of Xfce!

openSUSE Linux

The openSUSE project is a community program sponsored by Novell. Promoting the use of Linux everywhere, openSUSE.org provides free, easy access to the world's most usable Linux distribution, openSUSE. The openSUSE project gives Linux developers and enthusiasts everything they need to get started with Linux.

Compiz

Compiz is a compositing window manager that uses 3D graphics acceleration via OpenGL. It provides various new graphical effects and features on any desktop environment, including Gnome and KDE. (Short version: Wobbly windows and stuff)

The KDE libraries, basis of KDE and used by many open source projects. They are based on Qt, Trolltech's cross-platform toolkit, and run on Linux, BSDs, and other Unices, as well as Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Licensed under GNU LGPL, they may be used by open source and proprietary applications.
