Source Mage is a source-based GNU/Linux distribution based on a Sorcery metaphor of "casting" and "dispelling" programs, which we refer to as "spells", and a package manager called "Sorcery". Our packages are designed to allow the user to customize the package ... [More] any way they want (custom flags, etc.) as well as offering as many of the package options as possible to the user up-front (you will not need to know what options a package has or what optional dependencies it can use ahead of time). All of our scripts are GPL'd and our package manager and packages are written in bash, so they are easy to learn and modify. Sorcery supports custom packages maintained by users, which can override the default package and will never be touched by updates. The magic is truly in your hands with SourceMage. [Less]

The goal of the Syllable project is to create a family of easy-to-use free software operating systems. It is the continuation of the BeOS-like AtheOS. Syllable Desktop has its own C kernel with symmetric multiprocessing, multithreaded pre-emptive multitasking, high POSIX compliancy, 64-bit ... [More] journaled filesystem (AFS) with metadata, an integrated native GUI architecture with an object-oriented C++ API, SDL, singular native toolkit and multi-user desktop environment. The system seeks to be an integrated, lightweight, easy-to-program, powerful, high-performance graphical desktop environment which avoids legacy OS paradigms that frustrate developers and have hindered the computing masses' adoption of a free-software desktop. Syllable Server is a matching small and efficient Linux server. [Less]

gibbix is a package management system for GNU systems that utilizes widely available sources that are written for make. The only addition needed to the source archive is a list of dependencies. Otherwise, the package manager can handle nearly any source tar that is compressed with bzip2 or gzip. ... [More] gibbix's first usage is in the linux distribution AIOS (Advanced Input Output System). The package manager starts by unzipping the source archive, and placing it into /var/log/packages/foo, from that point it reads the dep file sequentially. For each read the package manager attempts to fetch the needed package via wget. If this is not possible the package manager exits (you can re-run without dep checking if you choose to). After all of the dependencies are checked, it will run ./configure if a configure script is found, execute make, and then "make install > /var/log/packages/foo/files.log" this makes it possible to later uninstall the program. In later versions, there is an aim to make it possible to uninstall unused dependencies as well. [Less]

Soda is a new Linux operating system aiming to do things differently. We like to try out new ideas, use unique and obscure software, and fiddle with fiddly bits. The development of the OS is still in it's early days and we've yet to carve a direct path of Soda. But, whatever the outcome is, it'll be good!
