The goal of ReplicatorG is to make a simple, easy to use GUI for controlling and running RepRap compatible machines. We're starting by taking the hard work from another project we admire (Arduino) and modifying it into something just as awesome. Thanks to the wonder of open source, we can ... [More] stand on the shoulders of giants. ReplicatorG is no longer developed here! We are now hosting the source tree on GitHub. You can find the current version at http://github.com/makerbot/ReplicatorG. [Less]

EMC is software that implements real-time control of equipment such as CNC machine tools, robots, and coordinate measuring machines. It runs in realtime under Linux with the RTAI patch. It provides a software PLC, and a realtime HAL for flexibility. For ease of use, prebuilt packages are available for most LTS releases of Ubuntu.

HeeksCAD is not finished, yet. HeeksCAD is a free, open source, CAD application written by me, Dan Heeks, danheeks@gmail.com Anyone can download it from http://code.google.com/p/heekscad/ Functionality: Import solid models from STEP and IGES files. Draw construction geometry and lines and ... [More] arcs. Create new primitive solids, or make solids by extruding a sketch or by making a lofted solid between sketches. Modify solids using blending, or boolean operations. Save IGES, STEP and STL. Printer plot the 2D geometry or to HPGL. Import and export dxf files; lines, arcs, ellipses, splines and polylines are supported. Use the geometric constraints solver to create accurate drawings from rough sketches. See here for instruction how to use HeeksCAD http://code.google.com/p/heekscad/wiki/UsingHe [Less]

OpenSCAM is an Open-Source software which can quickly simulate 3-axis NC machining. It aims to be a fast, flexible and user friendly simulation and CAM software for the DIY and Open-Source community. It focuses on the needs of desktop and low-end CNCs and engravers which have recently become ... [More] available for as little as $1000 USD. At home manufacturing is one of the next big technology revolutions. Much like the PC was 30 years ago. There have been major advances in desktop 3D printing (e.g. Maker Bot) but desktop CNCs have stagnated despite the availability of cheap CNC machines. I believe one of the major reasons for this is a lack of software particularly Open-Source CAM (3D model to tool path conversion) and simulation. CAM and NC machine simulation present some very difficult programming problems as evidenced by the 30+ years of academic papers on these topics which continue to be written. Where as 3D printing simulation and tool path generation is much easier. Which is why there is very little and limited Open-Source CAM software and no Open-Source NC machining simulation software. Until now. [Less]

This is not a real project. Just testing out some features of GCode.

Program takes a PGM image (assumed to be 8-bit) and outputs a G-code program that carves that image on a suitable CNC milling or routing machine. It does enough trivial geometry to ensure that the tool doesn't cut into the desired surface, so it's able to generate a fine cut to follow a ... [More] coarse cut. It also somewhat optimizes the G-code, merging multiple steps along a line into a single command. [Less]

A software to generate G-code for laser / plasma cutting with nesting capabilities. Also useful for mill toolpath generation. It can be also used as an Autocad's DXF viewer.
