The purpose of this project would be to develop a platform for information, resource, human, project, and geographical problem management / imaginative construction. Imagine the world as a multidimensional grid of physical resources, concepts, geographical regions, and at the center of it people ... [More] and organizations trying to redefine their reality on a day to to day basis or even minute by minute basis. With a database connected to a social networking / polling site / center of exchange, if it is easy enough, rewarding enough, and fun enough could suddenly have a lot a pull in the world's social fabric. A lot of this initial project would be discussing and discovering tools to make this work. After that then we can work on pulling together the pieces into a usable interface. At this point consider this pre-alpha in stage since it's all still mostly ideas. In part I am using this broad but well intentioned concept as a test of google's software to see how well it can catalyze ideas in me personally. If you would like to join, feel extremely welcome to contribute. This occupies the first node in a larger framework of ideas I put together to help initiate world change in a very fair manner for everyone. We can directly use the turning of the Earth as our timepiece without abandoning the basic details of accepted, traditional time-keeping with it's 24 standard hours per day, 60 standard minutes per hour, etc. We can easily devise and use a new system in which each of the standard 24 hours of ... [More] the day has a unique name based upon where it is the noon hour, and these hours are used universally. The name of each hour is taken from a geographical feature indigenous to that time-zone. (This was done in order to be as apolitical and culturally-neutral in the naming process as possible. Also, in order to avoid a favoritism to the northern hemisphere and also to avoid any confusion because of daylight savings time, which is needed more in the higher latitudes, the geographical features chosen are near the equator.) In this new system, each hour of the day is the same globally. Time is reduced to one system, for everyone, no matter where they are on the planet. [Less]

There are lots of Geographical Information System (GIS) projects out there, but there are few (if any) that are small, easy to use, and easily integrated into a standard Java program.
