GNOME

The GNOME project provides two things: The GNOME desktop environment, an intuitive and attractive desktop for users, and the GNOME development platform, an extensive framework for building applications that integrate into the rest of the desktop.

Xfce (Core)

Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. This Ohloh project only contains the core components of Xfce!

LXDE

LXDE is a free desktop environment for Unix and other POSIX compliant platforms, such as Linux or BSD. The name LXDE stands for "Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment". Portland Project

Portland is a joint OSDL/Freedesktop.org initiative to provide independent software developers (ISDs) with stable APIs into Desktop Linux and other Free Desktop platforms.
