X.Org

X.Org provides an open source implementation of the network-transparent X Window System, as well as working on the standard itself. The development work is being done as part of the freedesktop.org community, sponsored by the X.Org Foundation.

GNOME

The GNOME project provides two things: The GNOME desktop environment, an intuitive and attractive desktop for users, and the GNOME development platform, an extensive framework for building applications that integrate into the rest of the desktop.

Xfce (Core)

Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. This Ohloh project only contains the core components of Xfce!

awesome

awesome is a highly configurable, next generation framework window manager for X. It is very fast, light and extensible. It is primarly targeted at power users, developers and any people dealing with every day computing tasks and want to have fine-grained control on its graphical environment.

Libglade

Libglade is a library that performs a similar job to the C source output routines in the GLADE user interface builder. Whereas GLADE's output routines create C source code that must be compiled, libglade builds the interface from an XML file (GLADE's save format) at runtime. This can allow modifying the user interface without recompiling.

Crazy Eddie's GUI System

A free library providing windowing and widgets for graphics APIs / engines where such functionality is not natively available, or severely lacking. The library is object orientated, written in C++, and targeted at games developers who should be spending their time creating great games, not building GUI sub-systems!

LXDE

Clutter Toolkit

Clutter is an open source (LGPLv2.1+) software library for creating fast, compelling, portable, and dynamic graphical user interfaces.
