Through this way we would like to announce the first public release of PRNL (PHP Raw Network Library), 0.1. PRNL is a PHP library aimed at the execution of low level networking tasks. In this first ... [More] release we started with the possibility of transmitting and receiving raw IP packets. With PRNL you are able to create and transmit custom IP packets with matching TCP and UDP packets. PRNL started as a proof of concept to show the possibility of executing such low level affairs with PHP. Finally this was elaborated because it turned out PHP was able to execute these tasks much faster than the conventional programming languages such as C and C++. We also aimed at making these functions more accessible. PRNL has been fully implemented within standard PHP functionality, the methods used aren't properly documented though. In this first release the functionality is limited to IPv4 with TCP or UDP. It's possible that IPv6 support and protocols such as ICMP will be added in future releases. Four code samples have been bundled with PRNL that can be used as an example. We plan to add a full documentation in the future but this is it for now. Since PRNL is relatively small and is aimed at advanced and experienced PHP developers, this shouldn't be problematic. If you have any questions, noticed a bug (and there certainly will be) or you would like to contribute, please join us in #prnl at Freenode IRC. [Less]
