FAQTo be fair, no one has actually asked these questions, so their frequency cannot be guaranteed. We just tried to anticipate the sorts of questions which might frequently be asked if we don't ... [More] answer them here. If you have a question that was not answered here, please ask it! What is PSI Probe?PSI Probe (Ψproβe) is a community-driven fork of Lambda Probe distributed under the same license (GPLv2). It is intended to replace Tomcat Manager, making it easier to manage and monitor an instance of Apache Tomcat. Why fork Lambda Probe? There have been no commits since April 2007 and no releases since November 2006. Many people on the Lambda Probe forums fear the project is dead. We contacted the developers and received no reply, so we're trying to revive the project ourselves. And because Lambda Probe was released under GPLv2, we can do that... right? You're asking me?No, I was being rhetorical. What's the significance of PSI?It's a Greek letter just like lambda. Right, but why is it in all caps? Is it an acronym or something?Sure, why not? Let's say it stands for Packaged Servlet Introspector. For what it's worth, the character Ψ looks like a fork, and PSI Probe is a forked project. Does that count for anything? No. You should be ashamed of yourself for even mentioning that.I am. :( Hey, that wasn't a question. Come on, ask a real one. How can I contribute to this project? Our goal with creating PSI Probe was to allow a community to develop around it and help with supporting the product. We welcome any help you are willing to provide. Here are some suggestions: Download it, use it, and tell others about it. Join our Google Group and participate in discussions. Request features. Submit translations of the program's messages. File issues. Test the latest builds. Check out the source code and submit patches. Anyone who provides a patch (or even just a detailed description of what changes need to be made to the code) will be made a Contributor of this project. It's our way of saying thanks. How do I become a project member? We are a bit skeptical about granting commit privileges to just anyone. As the community grows, our hope is that experts and leaders will emerge. Contributors who make frequent high-quality contributions may be invited to become Members. ThanksWe wish to extend a very special thanks to Vlad Ilyushchenko (turbomonkey) and Andy Shapoval, who created and maintained Lambda Probe. Should your schedules allow it, gentlemen, there is an open invitation for you to join us at any time. [Less]
