If these positions are free of modules, than the centre column will fill the space left by them and become a one or two columns template. It is a 'semi-fluid' template since it has a minimum width of 760 pixels and a maximum of 960 pixels. The content (centre) column is 60% wide and the left and right columns are 20% wide. But this can all be easily changed. A demo is available for you to see the template working with one, two or three columns.
