LaTeX

LaTeX is a document preparation system for high-quality typesetting. It is most often used for medium-to-large technical or scientific documents but it can be used for almost any form of publishing.

teTeX

teTeX is a complete TeX distribution for UNIX compatible systems, maintained by me, Thomas Esser. It is based on the web2c distribution which is currently maintained by Olaf Weber. teTeX has been officially declared unmaintained by it's current maintainer, and users are suggested to change to TeX Live instead.

TeX Live is an easy way to get up and running with TeX. It provides a comprehensive TeX system with binaries for most flavors of Unix, including GNU/Linux, and also Windows. GNU LilyPond Music Typesetter

LilyPond is a music typesetter. It produces beautiful sheet music using a description file as input. LilyPond is part of the GNU Project.

XeTeX

A typesetting system by Jonathan Kew and SIL International based on a merger of Donald Knuth's TeX system with Unicode and modern font technologies (multiple languages, support for AAT and OpenType advanced font features, trivial font installation).

Platypus

Platypus is a comprehensive and easy-to-use page layout and typesetting system. Similar in concept to tools such as TeX, Platypus adds new features, especially ease of use, to the generation of documents of all kinds. Input consists of text files with embedded commands and specifications (similar in concept to troff and TeX). Algorithms Bundle

The algorithms package for LaTeX aims to produce high-quality descriptions of algorithms using pseudo-code, to convey the information needed for the reader in the best way (and with all the power of TeX at the disposal of the writer).

pyphenate

pyphenate is a text hyphenation program for the web. HTML processed with pyphenator will automatically break across lines to produce better looking text than is currently typically seen across the web. W3C specifies that a soft hyphen is a character denoting where a word can be broken across a ... [More] line break. When a word is broken there, a hyphen is shown. The soft hyphen is not shown, and ignored at all other times. pyphenate processes HTML and inserts soft hyphens into text in p blocks. It leaves all other markup and content untouched.
