GNU Screen

Screen is a text console window manager that generates virtual terminals (PTYs) for interactive processes. A scrollback history buffer allows copy&paste, a detach feature saves your session for later reconnect.

GNU Midnight Commander is a visual file manager, licensed under GNU General Public License and therefore qualifies as Free Software. htop

This is htop, an interactive process viewer for Linux. It is a text-mode application (for console or X terminals) and requires ncurses.

Aptitude

Aptitude's goal is to be a highly configurable console frontend for the Debian Advanced Package Tool, based heavily on hierarchical display of information about packages.

rtorrent

rtorrent is a BitTorrent client for ncurses, using the libtorrent library. The client and library is written in C++ with emphasis on speed and efficiency, while delivering equivalent features to those found in GUI based clients in an ncurses client.

ncmpc

ncmpc is a fully featured MPD client, which runs in a terminal (using ncurses). Its goal is to provide a keyboard oriented and consistent interface to MPD, without wasting resources.
