What is rOBE ?The router-based On-Board Equipment (rOBE) project is an application platform based on an embedded Linux distribution called OpenWrt (http://www.openwrt.org). The project is motivated ... [More] by our experience that a lot of resource (money, time) have been spent during the prototype development of on-board equipments (OBEs) to be installed on vehicles. Our idea is to apply Linux-based routers (in our project, Asus WL-500gp) as OBE prototypes. The cost is quite cheap (around $120 with a USB GPS + a USB flashdrive) while processing capability is more than adequate. Current StatusAt present, our code is based on PHP5 in OOP style in order to match with our prototyping objective. The first prototype is a vehicle tracking platform consisting of an Asus WL500gp (MIPS 266 MHz, 8 MB Flash, 32 MB RAM, 2 USB), a GlobalSat BU-353 GPS, a 4GB USB flashdrive. Features implemented in the first release include (1) monitoring speed, acceleration, route, and traffic status, (2) recording as KML files. AcknowledgementOur project is cooperated and partially supported by the Society of Road Accident Prevention - Hatyai Chapter. [Less]
