pacman is one of the most essential tools in ArchLinux, similar to aptget in debian, and the others that almost every linux distribution has. One of its failings is that it gets all packages from a series of mirror servers. This situation works, but does not make it easy to dynamically download ... [More] packages from the fastest server. This project aims to provide a p2p layer that allows packages to be retrieved from a large distribution of users and servers. An advantages from businesses on a LAN is that a single package server can be used as a proxy/cache for accessing the packages from outside of the LAN. This reduces downloading and speeds up internal package updates from multiple installations. [Less]

Headlights is a program for visually keeping track of which packages have been installed on your Arch Linux system. Using the Pacman package manager, it can check which packages you have installed from the aur unsupported repository and use the output of pacman -Qm to determine which packages are ... [More] out of date. It also can create a tree view of the packages installed, although this isn't fully implemented and the results may not be complete. Headlights requires Python, as well as wxpython to be installed on the computer. Since Headlights' main function is to determine what packages are installed on a system, it also requires the Pacman package manager, a component of the Archlinux Linux Distribution (http://www.archlinux.org).
