ml278The goal of the application was to demonstrate the transition of a user-controlled vehicle from the vastness of space down to a detailed planet surface. This is to be done continuously in a real-time rendered 3d-world without "loading"-screens or other distractions. The application ... [More] is composed out of several free software components: OGRE Bullet OIS QuickGUI To implement the way the planet is rendered, we have created our own scene manager for OGRE, which inherits some functionality from the Octree scene manager. This scene manager can be a useful component, for other projects that renders planets in OGRE. Currently, the application takes the form of a rather limited "tech-demo", but could be expanded into a game in the future. 3D Planetary SurveyorThe initial contribution to this project is the result of a student project at Vestfold University College (Norway). Its homepage can be found at (will not be altered after July 2008): http://ri-pro.hive.no/prosjekter/da2008-04/ Installing/compilingCurrently, the Windows binary is the easiest way to try the application. If you are on a GNU/Linux-platform, compiling it manually is probably the way to go. More information on this can be found in the README-files and will also be added here later. Be aware that you currently must have a graphics card with Shader Model 3.0 support to run the application, and OpenGL is the primary rendering system used. The project uses a CMake build system, but you need to have necessary dependencies installed. [Less]
