Secure Element Evaluation Kit for the Android platformCurrently, the Android platform is missing support for hardware-based security. Within this project we intent to fill the void. A solution should consist of a combination of software and hardware elements. Here we offer the initial versions of ... [More] various software components. Below is a list of some supported hardware that - we hope - will grow over time. VisionOur vision is that Android becomes an important platform for developing and deploying security-based applications, thanks to its openness and the strength of its tools. Finally, all code should be contributed into the Android platform in order to have hardware-based security support in every new Android phone. Initial GoalA significant part of these applications will require strong hardware-based security. Examples are: encryption / signing electronic identification mobile banking ticketing ... So our initial goal is to create an Android-based work environment that allows developers to use hardware security and even to develop their own applets for these secure elements. A first solutionAll current Android phones have a Micro SD slot. One can replace the standard Micro SD card by a Secure Micro SD Card (a MicroSD card that includes a smartcard chip). Support for SIM cards, embedded secure elements and further software components will follow. A starting point to integrate the SIM is to use the emulator and connect that to a real SIM card in a card reader. With that approach extensions to the RIL and the STK can be created and tested. Patch and description are available. Getting involvedFor questions about the project, news and updates please sign up for the http://groups.google.com/group/seek-for-android group and its mailing list on the right. We welcome any kind of contribution (discussions, issues, feature requests, documentations, code, ...), because we believe that this project is of benefit for everybody in the Android community who is interested in security. Moreover, we welcome anyone to join this effort and hope that the result of this work will be integrated into the Android platform. Currently supported Secure ElementsMobile Security Card [Less]
